In the coming days I'll be putting all of the Mibo paper animal back catalogue on here as free downloadable pdfs. In the testing months ahead any resources to keep ourselves and our children occupied are important. Simply print the sheets outs onto the thickest paper you have (ideally recycled or fsc approved) grab some scissors and glue and get making. Smaller children might need help with the cutting bit but these kits are a great way for all kids to develop their fine motor skills. Yeah, so take that, ipads.
Octopuses are known for their other-worldy intelligence and even though our brains are perhaps not developed enough to truly understand theirs, we do know this; that although they have a central brain, two thirds of their neurons are spread throughout their arms. Imagine thinking in your hands and maybe you're somewhere to understanding what it might be like to be one of these fantastic creatures.
The British badger feasts mainly on earthworms, small mammals (including hedgehogs) and other insects, making it the UK's largest wild carnivore*. It is estimated that 50,000 badgers are killed in road accidents every year. Further population losses have occurred in the last few years due to a controversial cull, devised as an attempt the spread of bovine TB. The benefits of this much contested cull remain uncertain.
*They do occasionally eat plants.
Imagine if you can, standing for 60 days in a -35C blizzard with no food or shelter, all the while trying to balance a large and precious egg on top of your chilly feet. One false move could send the egg tumbling to perish on the ice. It is the courageous Emperor penguin who manages to pull of this feat of endurance to ensure the safe passage of the next generation. Nature is truly mind-boggling.
